World Economic Forum var sammen med Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation og Johns Hopkins Institute dem der stod bag Event201, der var en øvelse, i oktober 2019, på hvad verdens ledere skulle gøre i tilfælde af en corona pandemi. 2 måneder senere udbryder de første corona tilfælde i Wuhan i Kina. Mindre end 5 måneder senere, d. 11. marts 2020, erklærer WHO for en global pandemi. Bill Gates står med Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation og vaccinealliancen GAVI, bag donationer på mellem 15 og 22% af WHOs samlede 2-åriger budgetter de sidste mange år.
